Richard Baron has practiced law with distinction for more than five decades and has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1974. He brings unparalleled experience to matters involving Florida Bar disciplinary defense, character and fitness representation for law students and bar applicants, attorney ethics, and complex tax litigation. As Of Counsel, Mr. Baron serves as a senior advisor and advocate in matters where a lawyer’s career, reputation, or professional license is at stake.
Mr. Baron earned his B.A. in Government and Public Administration from American University in 1967 and his Juris Doctor from the University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1970. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1970 and to the Florida Bar in 1974. His early career was rooted in federal tax enforcement and litigation: he served as a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of the Treasury (1970–1974) and later as a tax litigation attorney at Greenberg Traurig (1974–1979), where he handled high-level federal tax disputes and complex civil enforcement matters.
Since 1980, Mr. Baron has been the managing principal of the Law Firm of Richard Baron & Associates, developing a nationally recognized practice focused on professional responsibility, attorney discipline, admissions and character & fitness proceedings, tax controversy, and high-stakes civil and criminal litigation. He has represented hundreds of attorneys, judges, and law students before The Florida Bar, the Florida Board of Bar Examiners, and the Florida Supreme Court, guiding clients through grievance defense, reinstatement proceedings, trust-account matters, diversion programs, and ethics consultations.
With more than 40 years of trial and appellate experience in federal and state courts throughout Florida, Mr. Baron has tried and litigated hundreds of cases involving professional licensure, Florida Bar disciplinary matters, tax controversies, commercial disputes, family law, and criminal defense. He has argued numerous cases before the Supreme Court of Florida, including matters shaping attorney discipline and professional standards.
Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Baron is widely regarded as a leading voice on legal ethics and professionalism. He has been a frequent lecturer and panelist at The Florida Bar Annual Convention, the Daily Business Review, and the American Bar Association, speaking on attorney responsibility, grievance defense, and ethical compliance. His commitment to public service includes multiple appointments as Guardian ad Litem in complex family cases involving addiction and mental health, for which he was honored by the Eleventh Judicial Circuit as “Guardian ad Litem of the Year” (2009). He was also appointed by the Miami-Dade County Commission to the Addiction Services Board, assisting in the development of county-wide policy addressing substance abuse and alcoholism.
Mr. Baron’s practice today centers on protecting lawyers and law students when their professional futures are on the line—defending Florida Bar grievances, guiding character and fitness applicants, and resolving sensitive tax and compliance matters with discretion, experience, and strategic judgment. His decades of credibility before the Bar and the courts make him a trusted counselor for attorneys seeking seasoned, principled advocacy.
